THE MEDIEVAL PROVENCAL VILLAGE OF TOURRETTES SUR LOUP
Tourrettes sur Loup is an ancient 'village perche', dramatically poised on a rock cliff over the gorge of the Loup, overlooking the Riviera coastline, 6 km west of Vence, and 20 minutes from Nice Airport.
The village is very authentic and friendly, with local shops, cafes and restaurants, and is never overrun by tourists. Being up in the hills, in the summer months the climate is perfect, not too hot or humid, and well away from the coastal traffic.
The old part of the village is home to many artists and craft workers and there is a market every Wednesday. Every evening there are boules matches going in the square for free entertainment while you enjoy an aperitif.
Local attractions include
The old city of Vence with the Matisse Chapel (5km),
and of course the
Riviera, Antibes, Cannes etc are all
within a short drive.
BA, Air France and easyjet all fly to Nice. It is worth checking all for flight bargains. Taxis from Nice airport are around 60 euros, the bus is 1 euro if you are not in a hurry. Car rental is advised for stays of a week or longer in order to fully explore the region.
